Boy these guys learn fast.
We now have white bins in there with them...they really like the hay. They dig right down to the bottom of the bin careful not to tip it over...once they have scoffed all the yummy seedy bits they then tip the bin over and pick through the hay looking for the best morsels in there.
Thankyou Michele for the photo's from the muster we really apprecite having them.
We have introduced Mae (my Dog) into the pen as well today- while we just go from one end of the pen and they go to the other while we are in there- we find that they carry on eating their hay or drinking water now. Each time I have new kai's arrive they have never been scared of the dogs. They have become quite used to the noises and happenings around here. It's a pretty busy little place with all the comings and goings of trucks, bobcat, digger, truck, ute and trailer, horsefloat, people on horses (Jane & Darien) etc. They have not batted an eye to any of these things at all.
Today Lynn and I have been in and out all day long mucking out the yards, putting in hay, hanging up the salt lick, and generally hanging around. It's really hard to go inside hahaha...Tonight when I called Gypsy, Sarg and Louka in for their feed the hooned straight past the 2 new boys into the paddock & straight back out again at full speed- back past the new boys and into the pens for their feed...I thought if anything was going to turn to custard it would be then, but NO the 2 new boys already know that when the buckets come out for feed- they will get more hay, so they stood looking intently at me- waiting by the bins....Clever. They really didn't move too far away from me when I went in with the hay...I think I am being accepted- albeit that it's food orientated.
I have been able to lean- with my back against the fence right beside them while they munched on. Filling the trough with a hose is great- I think they must be used to waterfalls because the little guy came trotting over and drank almost directly from the hose. I am very interested in the dynamics between these two..The older boy is really looking for someone to take over for him- he's not really wanting to be in charge..and the little chap doesn't seem at all scared of anything- he stands and studies everything- I feel he is a lot braver than the big boy. We'll see. We haven't picked our horses yet and we haven't yet named them....I like to wait a few days until we know them a bit better first....hopefully we can pick suitable names for them soon.
