Naturally naturally naturally

This photo is part of the terraine these little chaps coped with on a daily basis

Natural horsemanship has taught me how to relate to these little chaps so easily...horse language...I can be safe and know that I am also learning how to relate properly in a way that we can both understand....One thing that Del & I have learnt is not to put the human issues onto these horses...they don't have any concept at all of what is scarey in our world...their world revolves around sheer survival and living within the very second they are dealing with NOW...Not before or AFTER...
The stall is a good example- it has a narrow entrance way and is quite dark when you step into it from outside...Dennis's Truck is parked right beside it-& the Bobcat is right next to that - so there are all sorts of noises constantly coming and going. Interestingly Louka was the most standoffish of these 2 BUT it was him that went into the stall without any prompting at all...He loves it- gives him shelter -always a bit of hay in there- no panic when there was no sky directly overhead- he felt fine in there- But Noa who is the most trusting of humans took a while to go in
---- I always let them just go in and out of their own accord...excellent training for the squeezeme game...future floating etc....without a fuss....I couldn't have set it up better....we have road cones & Poles in the paddock- then tarpaulins every now and again in the gateways- we figured that to get to water or food they would have to overcome all sorts of different obstacles - so we wanted to keep their interest up.

  1. Hi Kathy,
    This makes very interesting reading.
Love all the photos of the horses and since I've just been up to see you, I feel honoured to have met them.
Glad to see you used the pic of you in the snow in the South island.
    Cheers Clara
