Our new Kai's have arrived
Yesterday at about 1.20pm our 2 new kaimanawa colts arrived. Lynn and I have one each....not sure which one will go with who yet- they really pick you not the other way around....These 2 are very very stressed...came in a float not a truck which is so unusual but Glenn thankfully was here when we found out they were arriving in a float - not a truck, so he put weedmat against the paddock fence and instead of loading them down the cattle crush they were able to back the trailer up to the washbay and let them go straight through the main gate into the pen....Yay they've arrived!!!!!!. Thankyou Glen, Nakita and Shanae for videoing their arrival. Del showed them how to go about putting in hay and making sure they were as comfortable as possible- thanks Del and then Lynn mucked out the main paddock where my 3 horses are- thankyou Lynn. Sarg, Louka and Gypsy have been wonderful- they stayed beside the yards- I am sure they sensed just how stressed these two are...The bigger one of the two looked and still looks as though he could go over or under the rails at any time, so it's really important not to put any pressure on them for a while....he is getting better and better by the hour now...he is starting to eat the hay and drink the water....and the smaller one is much calmer but will be lead by him if we put any pressure on...so we go so far then retreat, and it works well. tonight I have started to feed my 3 out in the smaller paddock rather than right beside the yard and the 2 new guys don't seem to mind that..I can walk around quite freely in that yard with Louka or Sarg or Gypsy without them getting too scared, but any sudden movement sends them into the adjoining pen....so good to know that I can enter through that way...The little one is very curious when I am with the other horses....They are both gorgeous...Bigger of the two is a very rich chestnut- not unlike Cinnabar and the little chap is similar to Louka but maybe a little bit more towards chestnut than Louka...It's funny how quickly you forget that first few days after their arrival...I had written almost the same things when Sarg & Cinnabar arrived...then again when Radar & Hawkeye arrived then again when Noa & Louka arrived.....so I don't think these two are any more spooked than they were....It IS and always would be stressful for them when they are taken so dramatically from their home and band...and you couldn't expect them to just accept it and be fine in a heartbeat...it all takes time and patience and love.- just need to spend heaps of time with them now.

One is similar to Cinnabar and the other not unlike Louka..Rich chestnut quite a bit older I think...they are both bigger than Sarg already
