Gypsy and children
Nakita & Shanae had another lesson in natural horsemanship with Gyspy yesterday...we were in the roundpen- the girls are just sooo good at picking up the skills that me as an older kid found so testing. Nakita would bring Gypsy's head down to tie the halter correctly- she remembered from the last time....Shanae (a little younger @ 6) could ask her to drop her head but needed a little bit of assistance to tie the rope halter- but not for long....we walk around the arena both ways first and doing the lead and halt (we halt when we see a weed growing or a bit of the willow bark on the ground) found it a really good game to teach them how to be in the right place when stopping...if Gypsy went past the point they would do the yoyo game and porcupine game to reposition her. This horse is amazing with children- she would softly bend her head around and almost cuddle around them when they requested the bend. When we were to start the riding part both girls could position her perfectly beside the mounting block, and as they were riding her in the rope hackamore I asked them to leave the reins as much as possible and just look to where they wanted to ride.....My Gosh this was incredible to watch these small children have this horse going perfectly around the roundpen to the places they had picked out figure 8's around the mounting block and cones....they could even back her up properly -only a few steps - but without any fuss at all...it was all so perfectly calm...I am so proud of them all....when they had finished they were so full of cuddles and hugs for Gypsy- so lovely to see...I know Gypsy loved it too.
