When Hawkeye came off the truck I couldn't believe my eyes- he was huge..I wondered how I would cope with a wild horse this size. He was already 15.2hh and when the vet gelded him- she said he was only about 2 years old.... He was the most timid of them all...very jumpy and always hiding behind Radar O'Reilly...Radar was only approx 14hh but the vet said he would have been approx 3 years old...he was unable to be gelded straight away as he had to go into the vet's surgery for a little op to make sure he was gelded properly...we didn't want a rigg in our midst.
He was the gawkyest horse I had ever seen - his eyes bulged - his back end looked as though he had borrowed his hips from a dairy cow...BUT once he had that op he was a very different horse...what a star - we taught him to float load in 2 days and he had no issue whatsoever in walking the mile down the passageway to the vet's surgery- stuck his nose in the door and wandered in- it looked like he'd done this all before...I must say the vet was very surprised..she thought he was a "WILD" horse and he behaved better than most of the domesticated ones. hahahaha- that's Radar- took everything in his stride....these two were intially haltered and feet lifted by Danny -a Horseman from way down in Awakino sth island-He made this all so very easy for our kai's..Hawkeye had his halter on within 10 minutes and Radar took 20 minutes....it was done with no fuss or bother - again it looked as though they had done this all before- just shows what a true horseman can do. When these 2 chaps were rehomed- they went together to a wonderful home in Tauranga.
